The Two Roadies

If Jon Terzenbach were any closer to track, he’d be brushing off urethane bits (and he sometimes does). Much of his passion was instilled by prominent community members, such as former Oregon assistant John Gillespie, who called him ‘the slowest man on earth.’ Later on, having been coached by high school steeplechase record-holder Jeff Hess, he was the captain of a South Eugene High squad that finished second in state in 2005. The following year he was a member of the University of Oregon’s running club coached by Track and Field Hall of Fame, Tom Heinonen where he met future Internet sensation Calvin Brawner. Outside of competition, Mr. Terzenbach has been a volunteer for the Oregon Track Club assisting with the meet announcer and other communications personnel.

Calvin Brawner does not subscribe to the general public’s belief that extreme sports are limited to those that take place on a board or employ a heroic dose of speed. No stranger to risk or danger, Calvin was instead interested in the underlying rebelliousness of bold and creative performance. Not until his first trip to Eugene visiting close friend Ben Poffenroth, a state track champion, did the affair with running begin. Drawn like most to the story of the go-for-broke, front-running rebel runner Steve Prefontaine, Calvin learned that the loudest statements could be the subtlest. In the span of a year at the University of Oregon, Calvin transcended from enrollment in a 5k running class to a varsity runner on the Club National Championship team led by Tom Heinonen.  His involvement in the sport increased over the next three years as an assistant to Heinonen and Oregon Assistant Athletic Director Michael Riley, aiding in the management of meets at Hayward Field. This experience culminated with announcing webcasts of the Oregon Preview and Oregon Relays. Calvin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business with an emphasis in International Business and Marketing.
