Day 21 (Needham to Amherst) - RunnerSpace.com/Travels

After returning home from the BU Valentine Invite to Needham at midnight, Jon and I were ready for a morning off. I haven’t woken up to the smell of fresh coffee, ham, eggs, and apricot jelly in a very long time. I ate my weight back in ham slices and potatoes. Warning: The day after you have just eaten Gatorade and PowerBar Gu… lets just say interesting. With our belly full, Jon and I joined Mike, one of our great hosts, outside for a game of ‘Throw the salt puck on the roof and try to get it to stay on the snow above the ice dams.’ I developed a technique, Frisbee style, which seemed to work. I guess they’ll find out in a few days if the ice has melted off the roof. The game was so much fun that I found myself throughout the day looking up at peoples roofs and visualizing where the best placement of a salt puck would be.

Jon and I bid our hosts farewell and drove through the countryside to Amherst, home of UMASS. After arriving, I couldn’t help but point out the similarities of UMASS and Wazzu. For the people who know me, no offense to UMASS. The Amherst College campus, different from UMASS, is very beautiful. It has about same size campus as the University of Oregon and has only 2000 students. It has an ivy feel, minus all the tours. The Gatorade and PowerBar Gu was about to attack again, so I snuck into one of the dorm’s restrooms. We had some time to kill before we met our new host, Sean, for dinner, so Jon and I grab a couple pints at the Amherst Brewing Company. We picked up Sean afterward and went out to Mango Mango for dinner. I highly recommend the bbq pulled pork sandwich. At dinner, we brainstormed activities for the upcoming week. If things go according to plan, prepare yourself.
